Item:113508712385This vial contains what may be some of the only remaining fragments of the original iron Virgin Of Nuremberg, a famous (but faux) torture device that was destroyed in WWII by allied bombs. This item was collected in 1871 as part of a European grand tour. It contains both wood and metal bits, has an original tag, hand inked, dated 1871 and initialed JWM, and atop is the original wax seal still intact. A true one of a kind oddity and piece of torture history. This piece was discovered in a central Maine estate along with an array of other similar grand tour relics, many of which were small pieces of the location in question. Included were things like a portion of stone from the tomb of King Philip, first king of France, a portion of the great pyramid of Giza, and so forth. The remainder of this collection is now in private hands but this item stood out as unique among them and is being offered separately. I have contacted the History Museum Of Nuremberg and was given no indication that they have an item like this in their collection, nor were they aware of others that exist. This could in fact be the only remaining pieces of the original Iron Virgin Of Nuremberg, a device often known as the Iron Maiden, where a victim was placed in a metal and wood female form, and inclosed, the interior covered with spikes. As mentioned above this device was on display for many years before being completely destroyed by allied bombs in WWII If you’re a collector of torture relics, or grand tour items, this is an opportunity to have a true one of a kind item in your collection. This bottle measures approx. 2 inches tall and 1 inch in diameter at the base. The paper label is hand inked by the collector of the relic, and has browned with age, the label is lifted on both ends, and affixed with a paper hinge adhesive in the center. The bottle contains rusty metal, wood fragments and dust from the original Iron Virgin Of Nuremberg. It is a true antique grand tour item. Due to the antique and fragile nature of my items, all my pieces are sold as found, as is, with no returns. I will happily answer any questions you may have prior to bidding.Age:1850-1899
